The New Theatre is a large-scale Edwardian theatre in Cardiff city centre. It is the city's oldest surviving theatre and seats around 1100 people.

You can find us on the corner of Park Place and Greyfriars Road.

The building is open from 09:30 to 17:00 on non-performance days or until the end of the evening performances.

What to expect when you visit


Drinks and some light snacks are available from the bars on all levels.

You can pre-order drinks to avoid queues during intervals and after shows. Where possible, bar tariffs are provided in large print; please let us know in advance if this service is required. Various tables and seats are available on all levels.  We are a cashless venue.

Passenger lift

We have a dedicated passenger lift for customers who need it and who have purchased tickets in Box G, Box H, or on row M of the Circle.

Customers who have difficulty with stairs are also welcome to use the lift, but must be able to manage stairs in the event of an emergency evacuation.

Wheelchair Loan Service

We have a manual wheelchair available for free loan at performances.

When to arrive

The bars will be open approximately an hour before the start of the show, with the auditorium opening approximately 30 minutes before curtain up. We are a cashless venue.

The Stalls Bar is often open after the show on performance nights.

Bags and coats

There is no cloakroom facility available at the theatre, and patrons are advised that no large bags will be permitted into the auditorium.

Due to improved security in all public buildings, we reserve the right to search all bags brought into the building.

Bars and bathroom access

Bars and bathrooms are available throughout the building, an accessible toilet and baby changing facility are available on the ground floor.


In the event of an emergency evacuation theatre staff will direct you to the nearest emergency exits.
